Matt Morgan is a seasoned swimmer and swim coach, with more than 30 years of pool time. His swimming journey began at the age of 10, when he learned how to swim through the Red Cross swim program at his local community pool in Landisville, PA. A year later, he joined the summer swim team at Landisville, where he would compete for the next seven summers. At 12, he joined his first US Swimming club team, Five Star Swim Club, located in Litiz, PA. After two years with FSSC, Matt transferred to the Lancaster Aquatic Club, where he competed for the next four years. While with LAC, Matt trained under the guidance of prominent swim coaches, including Bob Herlinger and John Pontz. Matt also trained with several junior and senior national qualifiers, as well as 2000 Olympic Team qualifier Kyle Salyards.
While swimming and competing on US club teams, Matt also swam for the Hempfield High School Black Knight varsity swim team. During his four years with the high school swim team, he assisted his team with winning three sectional championships, two district championships, and a fourth place state finish during his sophomore year. Matt was a co-captain his senior year, and when he graduated in 1995, was one of the top ten fastest swimmers in the schools history.
After graduating high school, Matt went on to swim on a partial scholarship at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. There, Matt specialized in several events, including the 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and 200 freestyle. He was a three year qualifier for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Swimming Championships.
Upon graduation, Matt took some time away from the pool for a few years. In 2005, while in the Air Force stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Matt joined the Dayton Sharks Masters swim team, where he swam until 2006.
In 2009, Matt and his family moved to Virginia, and by 2012, he was back in the pool. From 2012 until 2017, Matt was a water safety instructor with Powell Wellness Center, teaching swim lessons to everyone from 6-months to 60 years of age. Matt also was the varsity swim coach for Eastern View High School during this time, where he had the opportunity to work with a variety of high school swimmers and ability levels.
Since 2019, Matt has been helping to coach a variety of swim teams, including the Culpeper High School Swim Team, the Culpeper Barracudas, and most recently the Battlefield Area Star Swimmers.
In his limited time outside of aquatic venues, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, watching his kids play soccer, exercising, and just being outside.
Jack has been a cornerstone of the Culpeper Barracudas Swim Team (CBST)
Jack's swimming career extends beyond the Barracudas; he was a standout athlete at Culpeper County High School (CCHS). As a member of the CCHS Blue Devils, he swam all freestyle events, including the challenging 500 free, as well as butterfly and individual medley events. His leadership skills shone through as he captained the team and earned the MVP award in his senior year. In addition to swimming, Jack was also a four-year member of the CCHS soccer team, where he served as team captain and received the team leadership award.
Currently, Jack is pursuing a degree in Communications and Digital Studies at the University of Mary Washington, with minors in Sports Management and Political Science. His college life is equally impressive; he is the president and a player on the UMW Club Soccer Team, the founder of the newly established pickleball club, and the manager of the UMW Varsity Swim Team. Jack's enthusiasm for coaching and sports communication drives his ambition to continue in the coaching profession or venture into sports communications after graduation. His multifaceted involvement in athletics and leadership roles underscores his dedication and potential in the field of sports.

With a lifelong passion for the water, I’ve been swimming as long as I can remember. I started swimming competitively in Pennsylvania year-round for the Uniontown Area YMCA at the age of 6. In addition to swimming at the YMCA, I also swam for my Junior and Senior High School teams, the Laurel Highland Mustangs, where I would go on to compete in both swimming and diving. I excelled in the 100 yard Breaststroke, 200 yard Individual Medley (IM), 500, 200 and 100 yard Freestyle.
My first summer job at 15 was lifeguard for the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Conestoga where I was responsible for swimmer assessments and the rowing and small boat sailing merit badges. I continued working as a lifeguard at the YMCA in Uniontown and Pittsburgh and began teaching swimming lessons that spanned from Infant and Toddler introduction to the water, Pre-School, Youth and Teen group lessons, all the way through one-on-one adult swim lessons. I continued teaching swimming until I graduated and began working in IT.
I moved to Culpeper with my wife and daughter in 2014. Following in her father’s and mother’s footsteps, we proudly cheered our daughter on from the pool deck since her first introduction to competitive swimming when she joined the Barracudas in 2019 and BASS in 2023 for year-round competition. I’m grateful for the opportunity to get back in the water and take the experiences I’ve gained through my lifelong passion for swimming and bring them to the Culpeper Barracudas. I look forward to working with the team and helping the swimmers develop into the best athletes they can be.
